Art in the Square features workshops throughout the day that stimulate both the mind and the body. These FREE workshops are designed for participants of all ages and skill levels, so they are a perfect chance to try something new!
Yoga with Lifesource Yoga
Start your morning out right by learning a little yoga! Lifesource Yoga will be hosting a free yoga workshop for grown-ups at 10am in the old Verizon space next to Metro Burger (they'll also be hosting several for kids in the Kid's Corner). No experience is necessary.
Kidz Dance! Workshop
Spend 45 minutes having fun with different kinds of dance in a class with members of Pointillism Jazz Consort. You can learn about ballet, jazz, and musical theatre movement from 10:45 to 11:30 am on the KidJam Stage! Bring yourself -- no shoes needed -- and lots of energy! For kids of all ages, 2 - 92.
Tai Chi with Nancy G
Tai Chi instructor, Nancy Gardner of NG Energy, will be holding a free workshop from 11am until noon on the west side of First Merit (opposite side of Conger Ave.). For people of all ages and physical abilities, Tai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art, practiced for its many health benefits.
Lantern Making with Leandra Drumm
Leandra Drumm and our friends at the Light-Up Lantern Festival in University Park invite you to make your own lanterns from noon until 2pm in front of the entrance to the library. All supplies will be provided for free. All you need to bring is the creativity!
Pole Dance Fitness
Join Lifesource Yoga at noon on the west side of First Merit (opposite side of Conger Ave.) for a Pole Fitness workshop. This workshop will introduce you to the new trend of pole dance as a form of both expression and fitness. It open to ladies of any age or body type.
Yoga with Free Akron Yoga
Free Akron Yoga will hold a free yoga workshop at 1:15 PM on the west side of First Merit (opposite side as Conger Ave.). This is open to all ages and skill levels, and is a perfect chance for you to experience yoga for the first time. Expect to chant, move, breathe and relax, together. Wear loose clothes and bring a yoga mat or beach towel.
Belly Dancing with Visions of the Nile
Area belly dancing school, Visions of the Nile, will host an hour-long workshop at 2pm on the west side of First Merit (opposite side as Conger Ave.). Belly dancing is for women of all shapes, sizes, and ages and is a great way to get fit. If you've ever been curious about belly dancing, this is your chance to get a free introduction.
Masala Bhangra Workout
Masala Bhangra is an exercise dance routine based on northern Indian folk dance with a Bollywood twist. It is high-energy and fun and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Join Lisa Wheeler-Cooper at 3pm on the west side of First Merit (opposite side of Conger Ave.) to experience this fun workout.
Homeopathy Workshop
Although homeopathic remedies are readily available at health food stores and natural markets, many people do not know how to use them. Local homeopath Patricia Maher will explain how this several hundred year old natural healing system works from 4pm-5pm in the Library. She will explore some essential first aid remedies as well as acute remedies for colds, flu and allergies so that participants know how to approach stocking their own home homeopathy kit from local stores.
Draw Dames with Dr. Sketchy
Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School invites you to enjoy some music, drawing, games and dames at 4pm on the west side of First Merit (opposite side of Conger Ave.). Dr. Sketchy's is a wild twist on art school in a fun, non-judgmental environment. No experience is necessary!
